    • Leadership Styles and E-Commerce Adoption among SME Managers in Oman: Moderating Effect of Technology Readiness

      28 March 2024

This study investigates the moderating effect of technology readiness (TR) on e-commerce adoption in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Oman. Data were collected from 382 participants including owner, manager or both (both here means owner who also manages the business). The study used SPSS and SmartPLS 4 software for statistical analysis and hypothesis testing. The study found that technology readiness significantly influenced the relationship between leadership styles and e-commerce adoption. Transformational leadership positively influenced e-commerce adoption, while transactional leadership had a negative effect. The study also found that technology readiness moderates the relationship between leadership styles and e-commerce adoption. The findings suggest that companies should prioritise the development of transformational leadership styles and high technology readiness to enable effective e-commerce adoption.

    • Demystifying leadership: A holistic analysis of its role, including demographic factors in e-commerce in SMEs in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate, Oman

      28 February 2024

This quantitative study with a sample of 375 participants from small and medium enterprises (SME) in the Ad Dakhiliyah region of Oman examines the impact of transformational and transactional leadership styles on E-commerce adoption (ECA). A multi-group (MGA) analysis was conducted to investigate the influence of demographic factors on ECA through leadership styles. Using statistical analyses via SPSS and SmartPLS 4, the study shows significant gender differences in the influence of leadership styles on ECA. In addition, comparisons were made with two other demographic factors — age and leadership position. However, caution should be exercised when generalising beyond the study's focus on the Ad Dakhiliyah region. Despite a comprehensive investigation, the age factor shows an insignificant difference in the impact of transformational and transactional leadership on ECA. This study makes an important contribution to the understanding of leadership dynamics in the digital age in Omani SMEs, highlighting the gender nuances. The integration of robust research models and statistical tools enhances methodological rigour and provides practitioners and future researchers with nuanced perspectives on leadership and technology adoption in the Ad Dakhiliyah region and in the broader context of Omani SMEs.

    • Investigating The E-Service Adoption of SMEs in Oman Using the Technology Readiness Model 2.0 With a Focus on Business Size.

      09 April 2023

The study examines the technology readiness of SMEs for the adoption of e-services based on company size. This reveals opportunities to better exploit the potential of e-services adoption for SMEs in Oman. The problem this study focused is that despite the increasing availability and benefits of e-services, many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Oman have been slow to adopt them. This lack of adoption can limit their ability to compete and grow in an increasingly digital market. Studies show that business size plays an important role in the adoption of e-services, and this is one of the main reasons for conducting this study. A quantitative survey method was used to select the sample among SMEs in Oman. SmartPLS 4.0 was used to conduct a multigroup analysis (MGA) to determine the moderating effect of firm size of SMEs in Oman. The main findings show that motivators (optimism and innovativeness) are important predictors of SMEs' willingness to adopt e-services. The study also found that among demographic factors, firm size significantly explains differences between SMEs' readiness to adopt e-services, while it is predicted by motivators and inhibitors. This study has added to the literature by investigating the moderating effect of firm size on SMEs' readiness to adopt e-services in Oman. It could also provide additional benefits to many SMEs that could lead to the adoption of e-services.

    • Technology Readiness among Consumers in Oman: The Case of Adopting E-Services

      5 April 2022

The adoption and use of new technology have seen a rapid increase and evolution worldwide. This phenomenon is especially prevalent in developed countries. Therefore, this study examines the technology readiness in terms of e-Services adoption among Omanis. Based on the Technology readiness (TR) Index 2.0, the people’s propensity to embrace and use e-Services in Oman is explored. The TR involves understanding four-dimension optimism, innovativeness, discomfort, and insecurity, explaining the readiness and use of e-Services in this study. Using a quantitative approach, SPSS performs fundamental descriptive analysis on 322 responses. Subsequently, further assessment is conducted using the Partial Least Square (SmartPLS) software. Thus, the analysis of this study consists of two stages- the assessment of measurement and the structural model. Findings suggest a strong relationship between optimism and innovativeness towards e-service adoption among Omanis, validating the proposed framework. Additionally, discomfort and insecurity are found to have no significant effect on the adoption of e-Services. These findings were then used as a basis to provide recommendations and facilitate government and other non-government agencies responsible for e-Services.
